The mission of the NBTA is to recognize and promote excellence in trial advocacy through a national program certifying trial specialists predicated on high standards of demonstrated competence and integrity. In order to be certified, attorneys undergo a thorough screening of their credentials, including: documentation of their experience, judicial and peer references, an exam, and the reporting of any disciplinary complaints for scrutiny by the NBTA Standards Committee.

J. Kevin Carey has been nominated and elected by his peers to the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). It is the general purpose of ABOTA to encourage improvement in the ethical and technical standards of practice in the field of advocacy to the end that individual litigants may receive more effective representation and the general public may benefit by more efficient administration of justice.

Election to the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation is on the of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a member of the State Bar of Texas. Nomination is based on outstanding contributions to the legal profession as well as a history of commitment to the community. Fellows are selected from just 1/3 of 1% of the membership of the State Bar of Texas.
