IRS Audit and Tax Litigation Practice

In the area of federal tax audits and tax litigation, Tax section attorneys have successfully defended corporations and individuals facing IRS audits and the litigation of resulting assessments. The attorneys have significant experience in the following matters:
* Assisting clients with the entire IRS audit process from the commencement of the audit through the final stage at the IRS Appeals Division;
* Preparing and filing claims for refund and handling administrative disputes before the IRS;
* Preparing and filing requests under the Freedom of Information Act;
* Handling employment tax disputes and "trust fund penalty" assessments;
* Litigating before the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. District Court and the Court of Federal Claims;

* Filing petitions for writ of certiorari with the U.S. Supreme Court.

State and Local Tax Practice

The section has been involved extensively in state & local tax planning, tax audit defense, and tax litigation at the state and local level. Attorneys have assisted in such matters as the following:
* Texas franchise tax planning;
* Application of the Texas sales and use tax to transactions;
* Multi-state taxation of transactions;
* Property tax matters; and
* Litigation of franchise and sales tax audit determinations by the Texas State Comptroller.
